Can YOU solve the following Paradox??
by Terry inbefore i address the paradox (a statement that contradicts itself) i want to insert a fact from history.. .
the romans used a malleable (and highly poisonous) metal (lead) for water pipes and conduits.
as snows melted into pure water, it was channeled into sluices and pipes made of lead that ran through the cities as drinking water.. .

Never feel intimidated to contribute what you wish. You don't have to belong to the top of the JWN chain to be of value. Not at all.
Good post Jeremiah18

New James Bond Film: Skyfall
by leavingwt ini had an opportunity to see skyfall in the theater yesterday.
it's almost as good as casino royale, with some parts of it being even better.
the opening sequence was a real thrill, one of the best.

Going to see it tonight. Can't wait.
Yeah I hope Idris gets a shot at Bond. I was surprised to see Javier in the trailer. He's awesome.

What one thing would you say...
by problemaddict inwhile i am still kind of new on my journey here, and may have a mixed bag of similarties and differences with all of you, i am in fact fading away from the religion of my youth.
in doing so, i have mostly been left alone.
meaning, my friends and family generally know i am "having a hard time" with a few things.

"I'd smile at them, put my hand on their arm and say in a positive, warm tone 'You don't have to worry about me. Jehovah can read hearts.'"
Heaven, I love this^

Have you read Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan? It's a good read and will help you understand how and why the Witnesses think as they do. It will also give you some insight into how they will likely respond if you say the wrong thing (from a JW standpoint).
I've had success helping some of my family out using the techniques in the book.

I grew up not fearing old age
by Sour Grapes inas a teenage jw, i grew up believing that i was not going to finish high school nor would i get old and have to die like my grandparents did.
well, i did finish high school, as did my children and my grandchildren and old age has not been kind to me.
i don't like to look at pictures from 40 years ago, from a time when i was healthy and i had the goal of "stay alive till 75.

My grandmother was in her 80s when she died a few years ago. I never ever once considered the possibility that I would have to live a huge chunk of my life without her. Much less join her on the other side one day.
Isn't that absolutely insane? The cult totally throws you off of nature's path psychologically.

I wonder what the WTS thinks of the Whitney Heichel Memorial on Facebook
by undercover inwhile not so uncommon in the 'real' world, this is quite the phenomenon for jws... an 'official' whitney heichel memorial page on facebook has been set up and people from all over the world are posting condolences.. personally, i think it's a good thing.
but knowing how the wts has tried so hard to limit jws from using social networking, i can't help but think that they are not happy about such a turnout of responses from jws from around the world to a facebook page.
i wonder if they'll bite their tongues and ride it out, knowing this a tragedy of epic proportions in their community, or will they amp up the rhetoric of the evils of social networking?

I used to tell "the friends" that I looked forward to meeting their relatives in the new system. Sounds ridiculous.
I wonder if they'll comment on the murderer getting DF'd on facebook?
